Death of a Salesman

One of the few bands to achieve a truly brown sound, The Salesmen recorded their first EP over Christmas 2005, basing some their songs around Luke’s fomer housemate. “He’s a total creep. I don’t like him at all,” said bassist Jo, who has never actually met him, but was clearly put off by this guy’s callous approach to women. Text messages sent by his jilted lovers to an old mobile phone he had given to Luke formed the backbone of two of the songs’ lyrics. Inspiration was also found in spontaneous (is there any other form?) glossasalia about Kerouc’s On The Road, cutting the soft white flesh of My Space goth girls, and people exploding through the ceiling.

Recently DOAS have expanded their sound by adding a drummer and some computers that should help them get closer to that Liars’ sound they so deperately aspire to. In the past, several of their songs have been mixed using a pair of pliers, as the mixer kept breaking down and had to be restrained with Black & Decker accessories. Singer and producer Andrew has plenty of praise for his guitarist and songwriter Luke Page, stating that he would “never let Luke play anything else again,” before replacing everything with piano and really loud singing. Luke similarly was very positive for Andrew’s production efforts, stating “he’s made my music completely unlistenable,” before explaining just what was there before all the guitars got deleted.

New material includes a song that should be “played in fives”, a twelve minute piano/guitar solo, a thing with out of time bass and electric guitar, and something on computer that Luke thought was really good, but didn’t have time to play his part over the top of it. Or maybe it just got deleted.

Death of a Salesman enjoy nightclubbing, bouts of agrophobia and making fires.
