Silver Bullet
My Attorney
This album should have been just the sound of one guitar and a voice. But as the recording progressed, it became clear that a large kitchen sink would be required to achieve the desired effect.
Fragile pop songs, wafer-thin singing and some obtuse lyrics about fire extinguishers are suddenly confronted by bin lid drums, New Orleans funereal trumpet and Eastern European piano. And that’s just the first song, Cohen.
As the album continues, there is wistful melody drenched in Beach Boys’ harmony in Frost Bitten, crescendo-driven In 5 Years’ Time which is all about Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek, and er… DJ Shadow. There’s even the inclusion of a cover; Fugazi’s I’m So Tired.
