“This could get signed!” said one enthusiastic fan after hearing Knocklynn. And in a way, he was right, since TSUG’s breathtakingly accomplished debut is available both through Ex Libris, and our friends at 1:33 Records.
Pacer Maker recalls the countrified intricacies of Pavement, Time To Go Home summons the vocal harmonies of The Futureheads, while That Was Mine sets The Fall upon the udders of The Cure, with Mingus throwing chairs at Andy Warhol in the background. Two guitars play constant tug-of-war to see who can make the bigger racket, and in the album’s title track proceedings are brought to a premature close by the most filthy distortion this side of Modest Mouse.
Vocals range from cathartic Lennon-esque yelps (on Long Story. Short Stop. Flem(m)ing cries “It’s a long walk home… for a fuck!” in a genuinely desperate fashion), while Orienteering has a relaxed croon from Wullie about how your shoes are too cool. It also contains the lyric: “I saw you on your skateboard/And you can’t even rap.”
