Recorded in a dining room filled with mahogany chairs and half-assembled drum kits, Silver Bullet is an album of delicate pop songs that have been embroidered with biscuit tin percussion and instruments left in the attic.
On “Moon & The Sea’, Elvis Costello is channeled in an echoey sea shanty lament, while the skeletal guitar of ‘Suburbia’ is joined by Casio tone synth to create a sense of real drama.
By contrast, ‘I’m So Tired’ pays tribute to Fugazi, a principal inspiration for the duo, while the weird, scuzzed up ‘Face on The Clock Says Now’ recalls a more melodic Mogwai with an epic guitar hook over waves of distorted keys.
A concise pop gem of a record; and the one of the principal motivations for starting the record label.
“With this record, your label is off to a great start.” - Ian MacKaye, Fugazi.
